Authorities have confirmed that bones found in a Windsor park in 2013 are those of a 56-year-old man who walked away from a board-and-care facility.

John Farfan disappeared on June 15, 2010, after he left the Le Ellen board-and care facility on Old Redwood Highway in the Larkfield area.

Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies were unable to locate Farfan during a search. Farfan’s family contributed DNA samples that were uploaded into a national database.

On Dec. 8, 2013, a person reported finding human bones in a heavily wooded area of Windsor’s Shiloh Park. Investigators sent the bones to a forensic laboratory in Chico.

Analysts determined last week that the bones belonged to Farfan based on a DNA match. The Sonoma County coroner on Friday notified Farfan’s family of his death.
