Lake County deaths may be murder-suicide

Lake County sheriff’s officials are investigating the shooting deaths of two Clearlake Oaks residents as an apparent murder-suicide.

The bodies of Laura Ann Matthews, 58, and Carl Garnett McHughes Jr., 53, were found inside their home Saturday, officials said.

Both had suffered gunshot wounds. A firearm was recovered at the scene, officials said.

While the deaths are suspected of being the result of a murder-suicide, a final determination is pending autopsy results and further examination of evidence found at the scene, officials said.

The autopsies are scheduled for later this week.

No other information was available Tuesday.
