Santa Rosa to mail elementary school report cards

Elementary school students enrolled in Santa Rosa City Schools won’t be taking home a report card at the end of school this year. Instead the district will be mailing out the report cards about a week later.

The district notified parents by phone and email this week that they would be receiving their child’s final report card in the mail the week of June 8. School ends Friday.

Assistant Superintendent of Human Relations Jason Lea said the move is meant to give teachers more time to ensure grades are accurate before report cards are sent home. Also, it will put elementary schools in line with Santa Rosa City School’s middle and high schools, which already mail all report cards.

“This allows us to give parents the most up-to-date information possible,” Lea said.

Lea said the district will gather feedback from teachers and parents about the new approach before deciding whether to continue mailing home elementary students’ report cards next year.

Mailing home this round of report cards will cost the district about $2,500, he said.
