Flapjacks, ham and eggs weren’t the only items on the menu at the Rancho Adobe Firefighters Association Pancake Breakfast.

Firefighters rolled out the firetrucks, water tenders, medical and rescue squads, and jaws of life for hungry supporters to explore as they waited for their breakfast Saturday morning at the Rancho Adobe Fire Protection District’s Penngrove station. Guests also had a chance to take a look around the station and watch as firefighters lit up two miniature homes to demonstrate the differences between one that has sprinklers and one that doesn’t.

The buttermilk pancakes, scrambled eggs and ham were prepared at the station by the firefighters themselves and served with fruit, coffee and juice. The proceeds go to the Rancho Adobe Firefighters Association, which in the past has used money raised at the breakfast for buying heart defibrillators and other equipment, said Capt. James Deurloo of the Rancho Adobe district.

“It puts money back to the community,” he said.

To raise additional money, firefighters also held a silent auction packed with children’s toys.
