A 40-year-old Nice resident was killed in a head-on collision in Lake County, CHP officials said.

Heading east, the woman was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier on Highway 20 just west of its junction with Highway 53 near Clearlake Oaks at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday when she drifted into the oncoming lane, according to a CHP report.

The driver of a westbound 2001 Kenworth truck and trailer, hauling empty agricultural bins, tried to avoid hitting her car by turning to the left, CHP officials said, but the vehicles collided.

The woman, whose identity wasn’t available Wednesday, was killed in the collision.

The driver of the truck, Tomas Araujo, 54, of Lodi, was uninjured, according to the CHP.

Officials asked that anyone with information about the crash call the Clear Lake CHP office at 279-0103.
