Two men injured in separate accidents on Sonoma County roads

Two men were rushed to the hospital after suffering major injuries in separate wrecks just minutes apart, a CHP official said.

A bicyclist was taken by ambulance to a local hospital after he was struck just before 3:45 a.m. Saturday near Occidental and Sanford roads by a Subaru traveling 55 mph, Sgt. David Derczo said. It appeared the Subaru driver, Anthony Rosa, of Santa Rosa, didn’t see the cyclist in the middle of the road, he said.

“He was wearing dark clothing and he didn’t have any lighting on the bicycle,” Derczo said.

He said the cyclist, who had no identification, was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. The man suffered major injuries, including head trauma, Derczo added.

Five minutes after that accident, Rufus Manuel Bidad, 18, of Santa Rosa was hit on Dutton Avenue after he jumped in front of a Dodge pickup, Derczo said. Bidad was suspected of being under the influence of drugs, he said.

Derczo said witnesses heard him yelling before he ran out in front the truck, driven by Javier Sanchez, 71, of Santa Rosa.

Bidad suffered major injuries but is expected to recover, Derczo said.

The drivers were uninjured, Derczo said.
