SAN JOSE — Emergency responders rescued a woman and her pit bulls from a Daly City cliff where they've been stuck for hours.

KNTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1NUeqsJ) the 54-year-old woman fell after 1 a.m. Wednesday while hiking near Thornton State Beach. North County Fire Authority Battalion Chief Tony Maffei said the woman's two dogs prevented initial rescue attempts, and that crews waited for the sun to rise before trying again.

The U.S. Coast Guard assisted in the rescue, using a helicopter to lower a rescue worker to the woman so she could be brought up to safety.

Maffei said a 27-year-old man also fell and seemed pretty banged up, but was able to walk. He was taken to the hospital.

Three people fell in the same area in August 2014. One person died and two were injured.
