Cotati-based ProTransport-1, a fast-growing medical transport ?company, on Tuesday announced its second business acquisition of the year.

With the backing of a Boston-based private equity firm, the local company has acquired Century Ambulance Service, a Jacksonville, Fla., business with 60 ambulances and more than 290 workers.

In July, ProTranport-1 acquired Los Angeles-based PRN Ambulance, with a fleet of 60 vehicles and a staff of more than 350.

“We are excited to partner with the Century team in the North Florida market, another move in our deliberate expansion into additional geographies,” ProTransport-1 CEO and co-founder Mike Sechrist said Tuesday in a statement.

Terms of the acquisition weren’t disclosed.

Sechrist and co-founder Elena Whorton started ProTransport-1 in 2000 to offer timely transport of non-emergency medical patients. Today, the company’s 950-plus staff members serve patients and healthcare facilities throughout the Bay Area and Central Valley.

For five straight years, the company has made the Inc. 5000 list of the nation’s fastest growing businesses.

This year, it ranked 4,837 with 2014 revenue of $58.4 million and growth of 48 percent over three years.

Private equity firm New Heritage Capital has been an investor in ProTransport-1 since 2012.

“We are excited about the opportunities that Century will provide ?to ProTransport-1, and enthusiastic ?to continue supporting the team as they further their growth in new and existing markets,” New Heritage principal Melissa Barry said in a statement.
