A male driver rammed a Petaluma motorcycle officer Tuesday night and reportedly crashed into other vehicles in Santa Rosa before being arrested in a shopping center off Highway 12 and West Third Street, authorities said.

The arrest, in the Oliver’s Market center on Stony Point Road, came after the driver sought to elude officers following him on highways 101 and 12, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brandon Cutting said. The pursuit began on Highway 101 and led onto eastbound Highway 12 before the driver doubled back and headed west on Highway 12, Cutting said.

The driver crashed into the Petaluma officer’s motorcycle near the Stony Point Road offramp, Cutting said, causing minor injuries to the officer.

“The officer is OK. We’re thankful for that,” Petaluma Police Lt. Ken Savano said.

The suspect, who was not identified Tuesday, also reportedly hit other vehicles during the pursuit, Cutting said.

The driver, who was suspected of being under the influence, was arrested after a brief foot chase. Emergency dispatch traffic indicated he was behind the wheel of a white Cadillac.

Additional details were not immediately available.

Cutting asked anyone who may have witnessed the pursuit or have information about the incident to call Petaluma police at 707-778-4333.
