A suspected drunk driver with five prior DUI convictions was arrested Wednesday, authorities said.
Joe Silva, 44, told the CHP officer who pulled him over after a high-speed chase Wednesday night that he did not have a license because of his earlier convictions, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said. The Santa Rosa driver also told the officer that he was going to be in “a lot of trouble” because of his prior offenses, Sloat said.
The officer pursued Silva at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday after Silva drove past him on Stony Point Road going 70 mph in a 55-mph zone. As the officer tried to overtake him, Silva sped up, Sloat said. He was pulled over at Mecham Road with a partially full pint of whiskey on his passenger seat and a 24-ounce beer on the floor, Sloat said.
Silva, whose license has been suspended 12 times, faces a felony charge for having four DUI convictions in a 10-year period, Sloat said.
