Sonoma police on Saturday identified a motorcycle rider they said crashed into two cars at the end of a New Year’s Eve chase.
Chief Bret Sackett said John Ogata, 49, of Sonoma Valley would be arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and felony evading after he is treated for his injuries.
Ogata was first spotted about 6:10 p.m. riding “slowly and erratically” with his hazard lights on at Highway 12 near Siesta Way, Sackett said.
He refused to pull over for deputies who attempted to stop him twice, speeding up to 60 mph through light traffic, the chief said.
Ogata drove through a red light on Highway 12 at West Spain Street, hitting a car that was making a left turn onto the state highway. He then struck another car head-on that had been in the left turn lane on Highway 12, Sackett said.
Ogata suffered major injuries and was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa. He was listed in stable condition Saturday, a nursing supervisor said.
Occupants of the two cars were unhurt.
Deputies took blood samples from Ogata, saying alcohol appeared to be a factor in the chase and crash.
