ROCKLIN - A 14-year-old boy in Northern California has been charged with murder after the death of his 13-year-old sister.

The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/2ac9zIv) that police say 13-year-old Ashley Wood died on July 19 after an apparent assault at her family's Rocklin home. State attorney general's office spokeswoman Brenda Gonzalez says the brother denied the allegation in a closed hearing in juvenile court.

Gonzalez says the judge has been asked to determine whether the brother should be tried as an adult. A hearing is set for September 9.

The Sacramento Bee hasn't identified the brother because he is charged as a juvenile.

Wood's body was found in the family home last Tuesday. The boy ran from the house but police say he was found in a field about a mile away.
