A Santa Rosa woman speeding through downtown early Thursday morning crashed into a power pole after allegedly trying to flee from a deputy, officials said.

Just before 3 a.m., the deputy spotted a silver Volkswagen Jetta speeding through the intersection of College Avenue and Chinn Street near the YMCA and briefly gave chase, said Lt. Al Vernon of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy followed the driver, later identified as Jennifer Zuzek, 31, for just two blocks before she crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Wright and Royal streets in the Junior College neighborhood, Vernon said.

Zuzek tried to run but was quickly apprehended, Vernon said.

She refused treatment for minor lacerations and was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of violation of probation, operating an unregistered vehicle, driving with an expired license and evasion of a peace officer.
