A Sonoma County jail inmate’s girlfriend was arrested on suspicion of trying to smuggle drugs into the Sonoma County Jail, sheriff’s officials said.

Jail staff found Suboxone strips on an envelope addressed to Trent Armstrong, 25, of Camp Meeker, Sgt. Jason Lucas said. Suboxone is an alternative narcotic often used to manage opioid abuse and withdrawal.

Detectives suspect that Armstrong’s girlfriend, Monica Genetti, 38, of Camp Meeker had been mailing drugs to Armstrong over the course of several months.

On Wednesday, deputies pulled Genetti over in a traffic stop in Santa Rosa and found mail containing drugs addressed to Armstrong in her vehicle, including Suboxone strips and “a small amount of methamphetamine,” Lucas said.

Genetti was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, violating probation, furnishing a controlled substance, smuggling a controlled substance into jail, conspiracy and possession of a controlled substance, Lucas said.

Armstrong is serving a one-year sentence for vehicle theft and facing extradition to Arizona for a drug offenses, according to Lucas.

Detectives have added arresting charges of smuggling drugs into jail and conspiracy.
