A Bay Area woman allegedly assaulted her boyfriend during a domestic violence incident in Redwood Valley on Saturday, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

Alma Nielsen, 31, of Concord, was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence battery following the alleged assault, which included a struggle over a kitchen knife, sheriff’s officials said.

The victim, a 35-year-old Hayward man who was growing marijuana at the Redwood Valley home he’d recently purchased with a cousin, told deputies that he, Nielsen and another woman had arrived at the home Saturday morning, Sheriff’s Capt. Greg Van Patten said. The man said Nielsen later went to Ukiah to shop. When she returned, she entered the man’s bedroom with a kitchen knife, the man said. The second woman at the house also was in the room, Van Patten said.

Fearing for his safety, the man told deputies he disarmed Nielson, causing a cut to her finger. Nielson then allegedly assaulted the man, bruising his left forearm, sheriff’s officials said.

The victim and suspect had been having relationship problems prior to the alleged assault, Van Patten said. It’s unclear exactly what triggered the assault, he said.
