Clearlake police seize pot, plants in trailer

Clearlake police seized 1,340 pounds of marijuana and 522 marijuana plants after responding to a report of a U-Haul trailer filled with pot parked in someone’s driveway.

Calvin Jones, 53, of Clearlake, was arrested during the Wednesday afternoon seizure at a home on the 16000 block of 20th Avenue, Sgt. Tim Hobbs said.

Officers were notified of the trailer by workers with the city’s code enforcement agency. Hobbs said the rented trailers are commonly used to transport large amounts of marijuana.

Jones was standing near the trailer when police arrived. It contained 40 large plastic storage bins of processed pot that Jones admitted had been transported from another county, Hobbs said.

He was booked into Lake County jail on illegal cultivation and possession charges.
