Sunday controlled burn planned for Hopland

The Sunday fire may send up smoke east of Hopland.|

A controlled burn is planned in the hills east of Hopland in Mendocino County on Sunday afternoon, so smoke in the area should not be a concern, Cal Fire said.

About 10-to-15 acres were to be set on fire in conjunction with the UC Hopland Research and Extension Center, which is running a study related to the operation, Cal Fire said.

The burn area is in grass and oak woodland at 4070 University Road, where the UC center is located, east of Highway 101 and about a mile north of Highway 175 and the Hopland Sho-Ka-Wah Casino.
