Computer outage hits DMV offices in North Bay, across California

Department of Motor Vehicles field offices in Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Napa were expected to be open today, one day after a computer outage that hampered business at those locations and more than 100 DMV offices statewide.

All field offices should be up and running today following what the agency described as a “catastrophic hardware failure” that crippled computer operations at most of its sites.

The failure began Monday and affected operations at DMV offices Tuesday. Customers were still able to take driving tests, make return appointments and get assistance with paperwork.

Online services also remained available and the DMV apologized in a statement for “any inconvenience.”

A complete list of affected offices was available on the DMV website.

Customers can also call 1-800-777-0133.
