Santa Rosa, Penngrove crashes injure 3

A driver apparently ran a stop sign in Penngrove, starting a three-vehicle crash that demolished vehicles but apparently caused only minor injuries to drivers, according to the CHP.|

Three vehicles collided in a Penngrove intersection, apparently prompted by a driver running a stop sign, according to the Highway Patrol.

Two people went to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries, surprising emergency responders who found vehicles so mangled from the impacts that the motor and transmission of a 2016 Mazda 3 sedan were knocked clean away from its car.

Daniel Ruiz, 27, of Santa Rosa was going west on East Railroad Avenue approaching Petaluma Hill Road when he ran the stop sign, CHP Officer Steve Fricke said Wednesday.

Ruiz’ 2004 Acura crossed into the path of the Mazda, driven by Tanner Jacobson, 26, of Rohnert Park. The broadside impact with the northbound car forced the Acura off the road and through a fence. It landed in a field.

The impact spun the Mazda around in the intersection, where it was hit again and the driver’s door crushed, Fricke said.

Ruiz and Jacobson were taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
