Highway 12 head-on crash injures two in Santa Rosa

The CHP issued a SIG alert and allowed traffic to pass one direction at a time Thursday.|

A head-on collision sent two people to the hospital and stalled traffic on Highway 12 east of Santa Rosa for nearly two hours during the Thursday evening commute.

Details of the collision were not immediately available, but there were reports that a silver Honda involved in the crash has been swerving in the moments before it struck an oncoming SUV near Pythian Road shortly after 5:30 p.m., according to the CHP's online log.

Two people were taken by ambulance with moderate injuries to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, according to emergency dispatchers. It was unclear if they were the two drivers.

Officers were allowing controlled traffic through the area in one direction at a time until the wreckage was cleared around 7:22 p.m., the CHP said.
