Windsor domestic violence suspect arrested after high-speed chase

A man suspected of domestic violence led a Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy on a brief, high-speed chase in Windsor, leading to a fight with the deputy and his arrest, according to a Sheriff’s Office official.

Jimmy Lee Freebury Jr., 34, remained Monday in the Sonoma County Jail, held on $135,000 bail.

Freebury was a suspect in an October domestic violence case in Windsor involving battery of a woman. Arrest warrants had been issued for the man, who remained at large, and deputies were watching for him and his white motorcycle, Crum said.

A deputy patrolling on Starr Road at 10 p.m. Saturday spotted a white bike and began to follow it for a closer look. The deputy reported the rider looked back over his shoulder twice at the trailing patrol car and then sped up, running a red light as he turned onto Old Redwood Highway and reaching speeds of 95 mph, Crum said.

The half-mile pursuit ended at Dawn Way when the rider took the corner too fast and slid into a concrete wall. He then ran from the bike into residential yards, where the pursuing deputy tackled him.

The two tussled briefly until the man was handcuffed, Crum said. The deputy had cuts and scrapes to his head, a forearm and knee.

Freebury was checked for minor injuries at a hospital and then booked into the jail, suspected of two felony domestic violence charges, reckless evading, resisting arrest, possessing methamphetamine and three misdemeanor warrants.

Freebury has a Modesto address but was known to be in the Windsor area, Crum said.
