A man who suffered a medical emergency while driving crashed his van into a tree off of Highway 12 outside Santa Rosa Sunday morning, according to the CHP.

The 9:15 a.m. accident was on westbound Highway 12 near the intersection of Merced Avenue.

He was found shortly after the crash walking along Highway 12 toward Sebastopol.

“The driver was disoriented,” CHP Sgt. Jason Bahlman said. “He does take different types of medication, but nothing that caused him to be under the influence.”

He was driving a gold Dodge Caravan.

Highway 12 where it intersects with Merced Avenue is one lane in each direction.

No one else was involved in the crash.

The CHP did not release the man’s identity. He was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for precautionary reasons, Bahlman said.

The nature of the medical emergency remained unclear late Sunday.
