Cleanup crews Friday morning were expected to continue mopping up a fuel spill into a Windsor creek, stemming from a truck crash Thursday night, according to a Central Fire official.
At about 6:45 p.m. a driver in a vineyard maintenance truck apparently lost control while traveling on Old Redwood Highway near Anna Way. The 2002 Ford pickup ran off of the roadway and rolled.
It landed on its roof and the driver had to be helped out, said Central Fire Battalion Chief Ron Busch. The man was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.
The crash also broke open a 100-gallon diesel fuel container carried on the pickup, which happened to stop close to a storm drain leading into Faught Creek.
Much of the fuel ran into the drain and into the creek. But quick action by city crews and firefighters helped contain much of the spill, Busch said.
As well as Windsor, Rincon Valley and Santa Rosa firefighters, the spill brought out several other county and state agency representatives overseeing hazardous material spills and water quality issues.
Efforts went into the night to hold the spill in place in the flowing creek with booms and to soak up the spill with absorbent pads, said Busch.
Firefighters were at the scene until about 10:20 p.m.
