Fire engulfs second story of rural Kenwood home

Flames consumed much of a two-story rural Kenwood house Friday night, forcing residents to evacuate and likely rendering the residence uninhabitable.

The fire at the single-family home on Lawndale Road near Bristol Road was reported about 5:58 p.m. and was under control by about 7 p.m., Kenwood assistant fire chief Daren Bellach said.

About 75 percent of the second story burned in the blaze, and the rest of the wood house suffered heavy smoke, heat and water damage, he said. The second story was engulfed when firefighters arrived.

“Most likely, the whole house is a loss,” Bellach said.

Residents were home at the time of the fire, but Bellach did not know how many people lived there. He was not aware of any injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Bellach said. About 20 firefighters from Kenwood and elsewhere responded, he said.
