Covelo man shot in chest won't say who shot him

A Covelo man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the chest Tuesday afternoon reportedly is not cooperating with law officials.

The victim, Jeffery Joaquin, 22, reportedly was found on Refuse Road, but deputies have been unable to confirm the shooting’s location, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were notified after someone took Joaquin to the local fire station.

Joaquin was then transported to a hospital in Willits with a wound that appeared to have been made by a large caliber handgun, according to sheriff’s authorities. Deputies attempted to interview Joaquin, but he refused to provide information on the name of the shooter or where the shooting occurred, authorities said.
