An Airport Express bus driver Monday night had to pull onto the shoulder of Highway 101 in south Santa Rosa and call for help after being punched by a drunk passenger, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers responded to the 8:30 p.m. call to southbound lanes near Todd Road and arrested the passenger.

The incident started soon after the driver picked up two passengers at the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport and began the drive to the San Francisco International Airport, said CHP Officer Kerri Post.

One of the two appeared to be intoxicated and that man began arguing with the driver about their driving direction before punching the back of the driver’s head, Post said.

John Wilson, 59, of Monte Rio, was arrested on suspicion of battery and being drunk in public and taken to the Sonoma County Jail.
