The man lingered outside Bianchini’s Sandwich and Salad Market at 1367 North McDowell Blvd. for more than 30 minutes before entering, according to the Petaluma Police Department.

He approached the counter at 4:14 p.m. and produced a gun from a reusable shopping bag, police said. He demanded money, but the clerk ran from the counter and called police.

The suspect fled the scene without any money.

He is described as white and middle-aged with a thin build and wearing aviator sunglasses, a green sweater vest and blue jeans.
