Sebastopol man who killed mom and dad sentenced to 40 years

A judge on Friday warned a yawning Sebastopol man being sentenced to prison for killing his mother and father that his continued lack of remorse would prevent him from ever being eligible for parole.

Judge Dana Simonds made the admonition to Nathan Wilson, 35, who stabbed to death David Wilson, 66, and Adrianne Chapin, 60, in their Sexton Road home in 2015.

Wilson pleaded guilty to two counts of murder carrying 40 years to life in prison without admitting special circumstances for multiple murders that would prevent him from some day being released.

But as she handed down his punishment Wednesday, Simonds noted Wilson’s unwillingness to acknowledge the heinous crime, which involved the use of a sword.

He stared blankly back at her, yawning several times as she spoke.

“This is a tragic circumstance and your parents can never be brought back,” she told Wilson.

He did not comment.

Under the terms of his plea bargain, Wilson waived all rights to appeal.

The slaying happened at his parents’ rural west Sonoma County home on Nov. 23, 2015. A family member discovered the bodies and also reported seeing Wilson near the scene covered in blood.

He fled to Mendocino County, where he was arrested the same day. Although family members said Wilson struggled for years with mental health issues, he was deemed mentally competent to stand trial.

Family members did not attend the hearing.

Prosecutor Jason Riehl said the family was aware of the punishment and voiced support for it. Riehl said he agreed Wilson should never be paroled.
