3 injured in head-on crash on Highway 20

One person remained hospitalized Monday after a three-car crash in Lake County sent two people to hospitals on a medical helicopter.

The 11:30 a.m. head-on crash Sunday was on Highway 20 near Nice. Jaime Rodriguez, 43, of Nice was driving east near Pomo Way when he lost control of his 2004 Ford Explorer Sport, the CHP reported.

The SUV crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a 2001 Kia Sprectra driven by 78-year-old Bernard Grimaud of Clearlake.

Rodriguez's vehicle then hit the car behind the Spectra, driven by Joann Rangel, 36, of Sacramento.

Firefighters had to cut Rodriguez, Grimaud and Grimaud's passenger, Imogene Hicks, 81, of Clearlake from their cars.

Rodriguez and Grimaud were flown by REACH medical helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Rodriguez was treated and released on Sunday. Grimaud remained Monday in good condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Hicks was taken by ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital.

Rangel was carrying five passengers, including four boys ages nine and under. No one in her 2006 Honda Pilot was injured.
