A Sonoma County judge sentenced a Healdsburg man to a year in jail for assaulting police officers who tried to serve him with an arrest warrant.

A jury convicted David Robert Brewer, 36, of all charges in the case, including two counts of battery on a peace officer. He was sentenced by Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Julie Conger to serve time in jail and to attend anger management classes.

Brewer was arrested Dec. 30 of last year after Healdsburg police officers went to his home to serve an arrest warrant.

Brewer kicked the officers before he was restrained. The incident was captured on video by body cameras worn by the officers.

“Mr. Brewer’s choice to respond to a lawful court order by using force upon the police officers was properly punished, first by the jury verdict, then by the sentence imposed,” Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch said in a statement. “This is a case where body worn cameras captured the incident and the video provided evidence to the jury to consider, ultimately aiding in bringing the defendant to justice.”
