A 29-year-old Rohnert Park resident, Amber Nicole Arias-Garfias, died early Saturday morning when a car in which she was a passenger collided with a tree on Highway 101 just north of Healdsburg.

The Nissan Pathfinder was traveling northbound at roughly 60 miles per hour when the driver, Jennifer Candau, 43, of Rio Nido, drifted onto the right shoulder and hit the tree around 4:50 a.m., according to the CHP. The SUV then rolled down an embankment before it came to rest.

Candau was unharmed and left the scene of the accident, according to CHP Officer Jonathan Sloat. She was found in downtown Healdsburg afterward looking for help, Sloat said.

Candau was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on charges of manslaughter, driving without a license and violation of probation, Sloat said.
