Road rage Friday involving a motorcyclist and a driver led to a crash in northern Santa Rosa after the rider braked intentionally in front of the car and was hit, the CHP said Monday.

Dion Jason Thurow, 42, was thrown from his bike, suffering major injuries, said CHP Officer Jon Sloat. Thurow was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital following Friday afternoon’s crash.

Driver Taylor Robert Green, 39, initially left the crash scene briefly but returned, Sloat said.

The two Santa Rosa men crossed paths just before 6 p.m. Friday on eastbound Airport Boulevard at Fulton Road. Green was stopped for a red light and the motorcycle rider passed other stopped vehicles by riding up the side of the lane and using the left turn lane to get to the front, alongside Green.

Green threw up his arms at the rider, who flipped him off, Sloat said. When the light turned green, the two men quickly accelerated. The rider, on a 2017 KTM 300 dirt bike, moved ahead of Green’s 2013 Buick LaCrosse.

Thurow then slowed and Green avoided hitting him. But when both sped up again and Thurow slowed in front of the car a second time Green hit him at about 25 mph, Sloat said.

Whether Thurow remained hospitalized Monday wasn’t initially available.

An investigation into the incident is continuing.
