A 16-year-old Sebastopol boy was injured Wednesday morning after running into a crosswalk and into the path of a car, which rolled over one of his feet, according to police.

The teen was on his way to Analy High School about 7:30 a.m. He’d been running down Healdsburg Avenue and saw traffic stopped for a bicyclist in the crosswalk at Murphy Avenue, said Sebastopol police Sgt. Greg DeVore.

The teen told officers he believed it was safe to cross and ran into the crosswalk. A driver who had stopped for the bicyclist had just started to move forward when the teen rushed into the crosswalk, DeVore said.

An ambulance took the teen to Sonoma West Medical Center with a bruised foot, he said.

The incident shook the driver, a 36-year-old Penngrove resident, who told officers she’d looked and seen no one else in the crosswalk so had begun to move forward. It also rattled the chagrined teen, who apologized for not stopping, the sergeant said.
