High-speed chase on Hwy. 101 ends in Windsor crash

A Windsor man suspected of burglarizing a home in Cloverdale led authorities on a high-speed chase Sunday before crashing off Highway 101.

Joseph Rexford, 24, allegedly smashed a sliding glass door at a Theresa Drive home just before 1 p.m. and took several items, including a gun, Sonoma County Sheriff's Lt. Steve Brown said. He left in a white Acura.

Windsor Police Officer Jose Acevedo spotted the Acura heading south on the highway near Dry Creek Road and tried to stop the vehicle, but Rexford didn't pull over, Brown said.

Rexford left the highway and headed west on Eastside Road in Healdsburg and onto rural roads west of the airport at speeds that reached 100 mph.

The sheriff's Henry One helicopter crew tracked the Acura when Rexford sped through residential Windsor and deputies backed off, concerned about chasing the vehicle through a neighborhood.

Rexford headed back to the highway but spun out and crashed down a grassy embankment off the Shiloh Road onramp, Brown said.

Rexford suffered minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, being a convicted felon with a firearm and felony resisting and evading arrest, Brown said. He was being held on $150,000 bail.
