A fast-moving blaze torched more than 2 acres of grass and brush Monday afternoon along Highway 101 just north of Cloverdale, authorities said.

Numerous people called 911 just before noon to report a fire on the southbound side, near the Highway 128 junction north of Cloverdale, describing it as about a half acre, according to dispatch reports. When firefighters arrived within minutes, the blaze was already heading up an eastern slope of a hill.

Cal Fire, Cloverdale, Geyserville, Healdsburg, Windsor and Hopland firefighters responded and police funneled traffic to one lane near the Sonoma-Mendocino county border as crews worked to put out the blaze.

Cal Fire reported the fire was contained shortly after 3:30 p.m. and both northbound lanes were reopened.
