Prince William and Kate Middleton meet Jackson Family Wines chairman Barbara Banke and family at the Royal Ascot

Barbara Banke and three other members of Sonoma County’s Jackson Family Wines clan are riding high from a perfectly regal day at England’s historic Ascot Racecourse.

Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the royal family were present when, on opening day, June 20, American filly Lady Aurelia won the featured race of the Royal Ascot for the second year in a row.

Banke and her family are co-owners of the horse, which was bred at Kentucky’s Stonestreet Stables, created by Banke’s late husband, Kendall-Jackson founder Jess Stonestreet Jackson.

Following 3-year-old Lady Aurelia’s impressive, three-length victory over a field of older males, quite the Kodak Moment occurred in the Winner’s Circle.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, presented the King’s Stand Stakes trophy to Banke, her daughter Julia Jackson, her son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Ariel Jackson, jockey John Velasquez and trainer Wesley Ward.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to have the royal family give our family a trophy honoring our amazing filly Lady Aurelia for winning the King’s Stand Stakes at the Royal Ascot,” Julia Jackson said.

“They were incredibly approachable and courteous. I connected with Kate Middleton and we shared our enthusiasm for a filly beating all the boys in the race.”

Her brother, Christopher, found the Duke and Duchess to be “very down to earth and welcoming.” He said Prince William had tongue in cheek when he told his family they were welcome to come back to the Royal Ascot - “but to take it easy in the future on the European horses.”

Ariel Jackson was taken by Kate Middleton, describing her as “lovely, gracious and warm” and adding, “She looked perfect in her beautiful white dress.”

You’ve seen the Ascot Racecourse. Built in 1711 only about six miles from Windsor Castle, it appeared in scenes in “My Fair Lady” and two James Bond films, “A View to a Kill” and “Skyfall.”
