With temperatures hitting triple digits Friday, a hiker became overwhelmed by heat at Hood Mountain Regional Park, prompting an ambulance crew to drive up a wide trail to meet her and take her to a hospital, emergency dispatchers said.

The 70-year-old woman, who wasn’t identified, was with a group of about seven hikers when the hot temperatures, already soaring by noon, made her feel dizzy and nauseous, according to dispatch reports. A member of her group called 911 about 12:20 p.m.

A Redwood Empire Dispatch Communications Authority dispatcher used the woman’s cellphone to identify her location in the park near Hood Mountain and Summit trails.

A Santa Rosa ambulance crew drove into the park and up a wide trail, getting as close to her location as possible. She was carried the remaining distance, about a quarter mile, to the waiting ambulance.

Dispatchers said she was taken to Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa for treatment.
