Rohnert Park police warn public about new sex offender in town

Rohnert Park police Friday issued a public warning about a Southern California man convicted of a sex offense in Los Angeles County who recently moved to Sonoma County.

Police officials said they consider Dan Patrick Cilley, 33, “a high risk to re-offend” following his conviction on a sex offense earlier this year in Los Angeles County. Cilley contacted police last week to say he is moving to Rohnert Park and “currently staying with family at the McDouall Apartments on College View Drive,” according to police.

Rohnert Park police, who didn't describe Cilley's conviction or respond to requests for further information, said he is on probation and a registered sex offender. Officers found “numerous social media and other on line (sic) posts by Cilley with sexually offensive material,” police said.

A Los Angeles County jury convicted Cilley in May of annoying or molesting a child under 18, according to court records. He was sentenced to 100 days in jail and 36 months on probation.

TV and online news reports said a man named Dan Cilley was known in downtown Los Angeles for approaching women while recording videos and making distasteful comments, and he was arrested after a video he posted on YouTube involved a 15-year-old girl. The child's parents contacted the FBI, according to www.ladowntownnews.com.

Cilley is “not supposed to be alone with any minor without a parent or guardian present,” Rohnert Park police officials said in a statement. He's also “not allowed to photograph or videotape minors without prior written consent and he is to stay away from places where minors congregate or frequent.”

Officials released two photos of Cilley and described him as 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
