Lake Berryessa fire under control

Several fires have burned in Sonoma, Lake and Napa counties in the last two weeks including the 114-acre Lake Berryessa fire and a 62-acre Kelseyville fire.|

Firefighters have fully controlled a 114-acre fire near Lake Berryessa, the latest summertime grass fire to scorch a section of the region.

The fire was 100 percent under control by Monday afternoon. Dubbed the Canyon fire by Cal Fire officials, it started about 1 p.m. Friday off of Sage Canyon Road near Berryessa Knoxville Road, according to Cal Fire.

The area is west of southern Lake Berryessa - a rugged, sparsely populated area.

No structures burned and one person suffered a minor injury but details haven’t been released. The cause remained under investigation Tuesday, according to Cal Fire.

Almost 350 firefighters had the blaze mainly controlled by Saturday night and spent Sunday and Monday finishing it off. Initially the effort closed Highway 128 from Lower Chiles Road to Capell Valley Road.

Several smaller fires have cropped up so far this month in Napa, Lake and Sonoma counties, including a 62-acre blaze in Kelseyville, a campsite fire that caused evacuations at Lake Sonoma, a 6-acre field fire near southwest Santa Rosa homes and 15 acres burned from three fires started along Highway 101 in Geyserville.

At this time last year, an army of firefighters were battling the 4,000-acre Clayton fire in Lake County, which eventually destroyed about 300 structures in the Lower Lake area, including 188 homes.
