A trio of Lake County family members were arraigned Wednesday on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the ambush-style death of a Clearlake man last week on a remote Sonoma County road.

Maria Guadalupe Torres, 40, of Clearlake; her husband, Rene Espinoza Martinez Sr., 40; and her son, Rene Espinoza Martinez Jr., 20, are charged in connection with the death of Antonio Botello-Arreola, 25.

Detectives suspect Botello-Arreola was killed after his affair with Torres was discovered. They believe she double-crossed him by arranging the meeting on Porter Creek Road early Friday morning where authorities said Torres, who had ridden with Botello-Arreola to the site, exited the car when a second vehicle arrived. Someone in that vehicle began shooting at Botello-Arreolo, who fled out the passenger door and fell down a ravine, where his body was found later that morning.

Authorities have not said how many times he was shot.

All three suspects are scheduled to appear in court Friday.
