Man in wig robs Sonoma bank

Authorities say the suspect fled the West Napa Street bank on foot Monday morning, discarding some of his clothing as he ran.|

A man wearing what appeared to be a black-and-gray wig and sunglasses held up the Sonoma Umpqua Bank branch Monday morning, fleeing on foot and discarding some of his clothing as he ran, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sonoma police officers responded to the area of the West Napa Street bank but were unable to locate a suspect in the 10 a.m. robbery, authorities said.

The incident occurred when a man caught on the bank’s surveillance camera handed a demand note to a teller and was given an undisclosed amount of cash, the Sheriff’s Office said. He also retrieved the note.

A witness reported seeing someone matching the robber’s description flee through a nearby business, discarding items of clothing, police said.

The suspect was described as a slender, white man in his mid- to late-20s or early 30s, about 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall. He was wearing a dark-colored hoodie sweatshirt, gray pants and dark sunglasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call 707-565-2185 and refer to case No. 17-0001297.
