Music, grub, tours at Redwood Empire Food Bank block party and open house

This Saturday, enjoy music, grub and more as the Redwood Empire Food Bank holds an open house party for its 30th anniversary.|

Thirty years of work to end hunger is worth celebrating, and the Redwood Empire Food Bank will do just that today.

Exchange Bank and staffers and volunteers of the large and ambitious food bank will host a block party and open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It happens at the operation’s home on 3990 Brickway Blvd., off Airport Boulevard.

There is no admission charge to the event, which will feature tours of the facility, samples of homemade kitchen creations, music by the Mike Saliani Band, a live broadcast by The Krush 95.9 FM, a beer garden and several food trucks.

“It is hard to imagine that just 30 years ago the REFB was created by a few concerned community members who wanted to help their neighbors,” said food bank chief David Goodman. “Initially helping just a few hundred people, we now serve 82,000 people in our community.

“It is true that great things come from small beginnings.”
