Driver dies after crashing into fence near Sonoma

Authorities are investigating whether a Santa Rosa man who died after running his truck into a wire fence off Arnold Drive near Sonoma early Wednesday may have suffered a medical condition that caused the crash.

The 61-year-old man, Richard Goff, had earlier called a co-worker to say he wasn't feeling well, CHP Officer Jaret Paulson said.

When his 2006 Chevrolet construction truck struck the fence near Watmaugh Road at about 7:19 a.m., it was traveling slowly enough that it did not penetrate the fence and caused little damage to the vehicle, Paulson said.

The man was transported to Sonoma Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Paulson said.
