DUI checkpoint near downtown Santa Rosa nets four drivers

All arrests were for drunken driving; none were for driving under the influence of drugs.|

Four people were arrested Friday evening during a DUI checkpoint near downtown Santa Rosa.

Conducted by the Santa Rosa Police Department, the checkpoint was set up on College Avenue near Morgan Street and lasted from 7:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Police said 1,160 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

All DUI arrests were alcohol related; none of the suspects were drug-impaired. Twenty-five drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended or revoked license.

One person was arrested on an outstanding warrant, and six drivers were cited for miscellaneous vehicle code violations.

Police say the checkpoints are aimed at discouraging residents from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
