Santa Rosa among the top 10 US cities for millennial home ownership

According to new research, Santa Rosa is a hot spot for millennial homebuyers.|

It might feel expensive and sometimes impossible to ever own a home in Sonoma County. But research done by Smart Asset shows that millennials aren't shying away from the challenge, with Santa Rosa ranking as one of the top ten places for millennials to buy homes in the United States.

To come up with the list, Smart Asset, a personal finance technology company, considered millennial homeownership rates in 2016 and the homeownership rate from 2007 to 2016. The rate at which homeownership has shot up in Santa Rosa from 2007 to 2016 is a whopping 11%.

According to a Census Bureau survey, as of 2016 only 34.7% of Americans under the age of 35 were able to purchase their own home. Despite being known as the "renters generation," many are doing their best to realize their dream of homeownership.
