A Lakeport physician was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a former coworker, Lake County sheriff’s officials said Monday.

Dr. Mohamad Almawaldi, 56, was taken into custody last week more than two months after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Almawaldi, a nephrologist, later posted $20,000 bail.

Officials said the case stems from a complaint last August made by a woman who used to work in his Lakeport office. The woman said Almawaldi forcefully kissed her and pulled down her shirt, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.

Online records for the California Medical Board list Almawaldi’s first name as Moutaz. The medical board’s website lists no malpractice or disciplinary actions against him.

Investigators said anyone with information about the case should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 707-262-4238.
