A 25-year-old former Willits High School honor student was identified Thursday by the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office as the man killed in a Wednesday head-on collision on Highway 12.

Troy Ersan was driving west near Frey Road, east of Santa Rosa, when a Chevrolet Tahoe veered into his lane striking his Subaru Impreza at 5:23 p.m., the CHP said. Ersan was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters. It appeared he died on impact.

The driver of the Tahoe was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for moderate injuries, the CHP said. His medical status was not available Thursday.

Ersan, who was living in Santa Rosa, attended Willits High School from 2007 to 2010 where he played baseball and soccer, according to his Facebook account and media reports from the time.

He went on to study at Santa Rosa Junior College before attending an unidentified California State University, according to his Facebook profile.

An employee at Sonoma Strength Academy in Santa Rosa, owned by Ersan’s brother, confirmed Troy Ersan’s identity.
