Suspicious car leads to Sonoma burglary arrests

Deputies spotted a man in the middle of burglarizing a Sonoma business early Tuesday, according to the sheriff's office.|

It was a sunshade on a car’s windshield that led to a burglary bust at a Sonoma construction and party rentals store at 2 a.m. Tuesday.

A deputy spotted the suspicious Nissan Altima parked in The Rental Place’s driveway on Eighth Street East and called for others to help check the property, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said. They found a man dragging to the car a $600 power washer through a fence opening, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies arrested Vincente Valencia, 30 and his girlfriend, Michelle Castorena, 31, who was waiting in the car.

In addition to the power washer, Valencia also was caught with tools used to pry an opening in the chain-link fence and break into a shed, officials said.

The Sonoma Valley couple was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy, officials said. Castorena also was held for violating her probation.

Bail for both was set at $20,000.
