Mike Kallhoff, CEO of United Way of the Wine Country, is leaving to become chief executive for Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles, the local nonprofit announced Wednesday.

Kallhoff spent seven years with the local agency and ?16 years in the United Way network. His departure becomes effective Friday.

“Working in this community has truly been a blessing,” Kallhoff said in a statement. “It was an honor representing United Way, and I’m confident the board will find a strong successor to lead the organization into the future.”

Jennifer O’Donnell, the organization’s vice president of community benefit, will serve as interim CEO while the board of directors launches a search for Kallhoff’s replacement.
