Temporary Santa Rosa fire station to cost $1 million

Santa Rosa awarded a $660,000 contract Tuesday for installation of a temporary fire station to replace the one in Fountaingrove that burned to the ground in the Tubbs fire.

The City Council approved a contract with low bidder Oak Grove Construction Co. of Petaluma to park a modular building and tent to house the engine company at 3480 Parker Hill Road.

The property is where Station 5 was located for decades before a new $4 million station was built near the top of Fountaingrove on Newgate Court in 2015. Both burned down in the fire last October.

The city is paying $2 to lease from Menlo Park a modular building where firefighters will work and sleep, and a large tent to cover the engine.

Construction is expected to start next month and last 60 days. The total project cost is about $1 million. In addition to construction, costs include $100,000 for consultant design, $90,000 for project management, and $10,000 for relocating the structures to Santa Rosa.

The project will be funded with some of the $7.5 million in proceeds the city has received to date from an insurance carrier, according to Deputy City Manager Gloria Hurtado.
